Shiatsu

Shiatsu symbolShiatsu is a therapeutic practice which can support individuals in moving towards greater health and well-being, it’s a combination of relaxing pressure on the body, acupressure points and gentle joint manipulation which promotes the free flow of Chi (energy) around the body.

Shiatsu uses the philosophy and practices of Traditional Chinese Medicine as the basis for treatment, and is received fully clothed lying on a futon mattress on the floor.

Shiatsu with Sally BlackmanShiatsu is a Japanese word meaning "finger pressure". It uses the principle of the power of positive touch - Everybody responds to touch, it is a natural way to tap into our bodies self-healing capabilities. Shiatsu uses hand pressure and manipulative techniques to adjust the body's physical structure and its natural inner energies, to help maintain good health.

What is Chi? Chi is the primary substance and motive force of life; it flows through everything in the universe. Within our bodies the Chi flows through Meridians, (channels and pathways) harmony and balance between the Meridians is seen as being essential to health. Shiatsu works with the Chi in the body, helping the body to distribute it equally between the meridians to promote a sense of balance and wellbeing.

Chinese Medicine works with patterns of disharmony. All symptoms, physical, emotional and spiritual are part of the whole picture; Shiatsu can work with all the different levels of need, giving your body space to find its natural balance.

Appointments are for 1 hour, with an initial consultation appointment of approximately an hour and a quarter.

I have benefitted greatly from having treatments from Sally with both table top massage and Shiatsu.

Over the last few years I have suffered from various physical and emotional pain. Sally's calm and confident manner helps her use her professional skills in reducing stress and getting to the central problem causing my physical pain.

My back, shoulders and neck all feel a lot better with less spasm occurring, and I do not get as much dizziness as I did.

For me, the release of emotional tension has been an added bonus. Sally's knowledge of meridian lines and chi has helped me focus on areas in my life where I have felt completely stuck. To know I have a stagnant liver chi has helped me understand where my emotional block is and how to deal with it.
